Hey there, folks in Monroe and surrounding Union County! As February rolls in, there’s a whole slew of activities and events lined up just for you, and the weather is poised to be delightful too! Expect sunny skies with a comfortable high of 58°F during the day and a low of 39°F at night, accompanied by gentle winds from the WSW at 10 to 15 mph. It sounds like the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy what our community has to offer.

Stargazing Under the Stars

Kick off the month with some celestial fun at the Night Owl Stargazing event happening on January 31, 2025, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Marvin Efird Park in Waxhaw. Expect an engaging presentation on the winter night sky followed by stargazing through telescopes. This is a wonderful family-friendly event, with a fee of $35 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Kids aged 7 and older can join in, but if they’re under 13, they must be with a parent. Get your telescopes ready for some starry magic!

Miss Unionville Pageant

On February 1, 2025, come out and support local talent at the Miss Unionville Pageant starting at 2 p.m. held at Benton’s Crossroads Baptist Church. This event opens its doors to girls from ages 1 to high school seniors who live within a 75-mile radius of Unionville. There’s a scholarship pool of $1,900 available specifically for seniors. So, it’s a great chance for our young ladies to shine!

Harlem Wizards Fun!

Also on February 1, don’t miss a fantastic performance by the Harlem Wizards at Sun Valley High School at 7 p.m.. Doors open at 6 p.m. Grab your tickets online and enjoy an evening filled with laughter and athleticism. Then on February 4, head over to Monroe High School for another enjoyable show starting at 6:30 p.m., with tickets priced at $18 at the door or available online too! Get the family together for a night of fun!

Red Cross Blood Drives

In the spirit of community, consider giving blood at one of the upcoming Red Cross Blood Drives. This is a noble cause happening on various dates through February:

  • February 4 at Central Academy of Technology & Arts from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • February 6 at Young and Polite Dentistry from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • February 7 at Forest Hills High School from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • February 10 at Zion Methodist Church from 3 to 7 p.m.

Get your festive attire ready and enjoy an amazing night for $75! And for garden enthusiasts, the Garden Symposium awaits you on February 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a registration fee of $60.

Mark your calendars for the New and Expecting Parents Child Safety Class on February 12 at 9 a.m. at the Union County Sheriff’s Office, and be sure to attend the Monroe Police Community Meeting later that day from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Monroe Police Department.
