Rock Hill Residents: FEMA Claims Center Open for Helene Storm Assistance

Hey there, Rock Hill! If you’re still feeling the effects of the Helene storm that rolled through on September 27, we have some welcoming news for you. A FEMA claims center has officially opened in downtown Rock Hill to help residents like you navigate through the aftermath of the storm and get the support you need.

Where to Find the Center

The new claims center is located at the York County Library main branch, found at 138 East Black St. This spot is easy to find, and you can swing by anytime during their operating hours. This week, they’re open Thursday and Monday through Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.. Just keep in mind that they’ll be closed on Sundays—so plan your visit accordingly!

Who Can Benefit?

Great news! If you live in York County, you may be eligible for individual assistance as a homeowner or renter. Since the application process kicked off on October 7, approximately 3,800 residents have already jumped online to apply for help. Remember, you’re not alone in this; the county hosts a population of nearly 300,000 people, all facing the impacts of Hurricane Helene.

Financial Aid Available

Over $1.4 million in grants has been approved so far to assist residents with home repairs, temporary housing, and other losses that insurance might not cover. That’s no small chunk of change, and it can make a real difference for families struggling to get back on their feet.

What to Bring Along

Planning a visit to the claims center? Be sure to bring along some essential documents. You’ll need your current phone number, the address where you were living at the time of the disaster, and the address of your temporary home if you’ve had to leave your place. It’s also a good idea to create a general list of the damage you’ve encountered and any losses you’ve faced. Make sure to have your Social Security Number handy, along with information about your bank and insurance.

Different Ways to Apply

Even if you can’t make it to the center, don’t worry! You can also apply for assistance online, through the FEMA App, or by phone. Here’s how:

  • Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
  • Using the FEMA App on your mobile device
  • Calling 800-621-3362
