Fire at New Indy Draws First Responders From More Than a Dozen Agencies

A Firefighter Hospitalized

In Catawba, South Carolina, a significant fire outbreak occurred at the New Indy Containerboard Plant on the afternoon of Friday, only to draw first responders from more than a dozen agencies. The incident, which happened around 2:30 p.m, led to the hospitalization of a firefighter due to heat-related injuries, according to the York County emergency management department.

The fire incident reportedly erupted in the plant’s outdoor conveyor system. In a collective effort to manage the resulting heat and humidity, multiple fire departments responded to the scene. Eventually, they were successful in getting the fire under control.
