This summer, several top football recruits from the Los Angeles City Section finalized their college commitments, setting the stage for an exciting high school football season ahead. As they wrapped up their recruitment, players took visits, received scholarship offers, and made important decisions about their futures.
One standout player, Onyeagoro, initially picked up an offer from Washington in January 2023. Over the next 14 months, he received many more offers before committing to Southern Methodist University (SMU) in July, choosing the Mustangs over offers from schools like Florida, UCLA, and Washington. Onyeagoro, who started as a basketball player at King/Drew, made an immediate impact on the football team. Last season, he logged 95 tackles, two interceptions, and finished with an impressive 21 sacks over 11 games.
Another notable recruit, Iheanachor, had an incredible junior season as a two-way player for the Gauchos. The four-star linebacker recorded 93 tackles, three interceptions, and on offense, he rushed for 852 yards with 12 touchdowns. After receiving over 20 scholarship offers, Iheanachor also committed to SMU in July, preferring the Mustangs over Arizona State, Kansas State, and Oklahoma.
Additionally, Grant enjoyed a breakout season, generating 1,008 all-purpose yards and nine touchdowns for Gardena. With offers from the Air Force received in May, he visited Colorado Springs and announced his commitment to the Falcons in June, showcasing potential as a dual-threat player.
Lastly, O’Neal is making waves at Narbonne for his junior year after moving from Los Alamitos and Newport Harbor. With nearly 30 schools showing interest, he committed to Oklahoma in June, turning down offers from Florida State, Miami, Ohio State, and Washington. In his sophomore year, O’Neal completed 61 percent of his passes for 2,475 yards and 27 touchdowns while adding three rushing touchdowns.
As these recruits head into their high school seasons, their commitments mark an exciting step in their football journeys, and fans are eager to see how they perform on the field.
