FORT MILL, S.C. — A 63-year-old man, John Allen Geiser, has been arrested and charged with child sexual exploitation following a recent investigation by law enforcement officials. The South Carolina Attorney General’s Office announced Geiser’s arrest on Friday, detailing that he is accused of possessing child sexual abuse material.
Geiser was taken into custody on Thursday by the York County Sheriff’s Office. Following his arrest, he faces five counts of third-degree sexual exploitation of a minor. If convicted on all charges, Geiser could potentially spend as much as 50 years in prison, with each count carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years. A mugshot of Geiser was not available from local jail records as of Friday.
The investigation that led to Geiser’s arrest was initiated due to a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. This organization works tirelessly to combat child exploitation, and their report played a crucial role in alerting authorities to Geiser’s alleged activities.
The term child sexual abuse material is becoming increasingly common in legal discussions to describe content that has traditionally been labeled as child pornography. The shift in terminology reflects a growing understanding that children cannot consent to engage in such material, highlighting the serious nature of these offenses.
In light of this case, officials remind the public that resources are available for anyone facing domestic violence or related issues. Individuals can reach out to the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233 or text START to 88788. Numerous resources are accessible in both North Carolina and South Carolina for those in need of assistance.
The arrest has sparked conversations among Fort Mill residents regarding child safety and the importance of community awareness. Many residents express their concern and emphasize the need for vigilance when it comes to protecting children from exploitation and abuse.
Geiser remains in custody as legal proceedings move forward. The Attorney General’s Office has indicated that more information may come to light as the case progresses. Authorities continue to stress the importance of reporting any suspected child exploitation and safeguarding the community.
