Celebrations and joy fill the air during the holiday season, but for some, this time of year may only magnify the grief and sadness they feel due to the loss of a loved one. To address this, the Fort Lawn Community Center is offering a free weekly group support session called ‘Blue Christmas Grief Support Group’ aimed at helping people deal with their grief.
Each Wednesday in December, anyone in need can join these sessions which will be held from 1 PM to 2:30 PM at the community center located on 55-54 Main Street in Fort Lawn. Recognizing that this season can be particularly tough for those hurting, these gatherings are meant to provide a conducive environment where individuals can acknowledge their feelings and find comfort in knowing they are not alone.
The grief support group is facilitated by trained professionals who guide the participants through various activities and discussions geared at helping them process their emotions. The meetings provide a safe space where individuals can express their thoughts and feelings openly without fear of judgement.
These sessions are not only open to individuals who have lost loved ones but also those who may be experiencing other forms of loss like divorce, loss of employment, or any other life-altering changes that may be causing them pain. The objective of these meetings is to provide emotional support while fostering a sense of community and togetherness.
While the phrase ‘Blue Christmas’ often signifies a time of sorrow and sadness, the Fort Lawn Community Center seeks to transform this into a symbol of hope and healing. Through facilitating these support groups, it aims to offer those grieving a place to find solace, understanding, and to navigate their journey towards healing and acceptance.
The community center acknowledges that the path to healing and acceptance is not a one size fits all process. This is the essence behind the formation of the ‘Blue Christmas Grief Support Group.’ It’s a service provided to the community, dedicated to forgiving and remembering, for all those in need.
