— A typical day of shopping in a local grocery store took a shocking and dangerous turn on Thursday when a fight broke out between two men, resulting in one shooting the other before fleeing the scene.
Rock Hill Police responded to a distress call from Adam’s Grocery on South Wilson Street just after 12:30 p.m. According to the caller, a violent altercation had occurred between two men inside the store, during which one of the men shot the other before making a swift exit.
Upon arrival, officers found a 46-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Despite his injury, the victim managed to identify his assailant to the police before being transported to a local hospital for immediate medical care.
Following the victim’s statement, Rock Hill Police Department’s Bloodhound Tracking Team launched a manhunt for the shooter. The mission concluded successfully with the apprehension of the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Zamarri Carter, in an address on Carolina Avenue Extension.
Carter was transported to the Rock Hill Jail, where he was served with warrants for substantial charges. He now faces accusations of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, possession of a weapon during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a person previously convicted of certain crimes.
Investigations are proceeding as law enforcement agencies dissect the circumstances leading to this unfortunate event. The current condition of the victim has not been specified, proving once again how violent disputes can quickly escalate, posing a serious risk to public safety.
This incident has ignited discussions regarding the implementation of stricter security measures within public commercial areas, such as grocery stores. It’s been argued that this might prevent such unfortunate incidents from occurring in the first place, providing safer public spaces for the community of Rock Hill and beyond.
