2024 High School Football Season Kicks Off with Thrilling Matchups and Rankings Shifts

Cities across the nation are buzzing with excitement as the 2024 high school football season officially kicked off last week. Several games took place, leading to significant changes in the On3 Massey Ratings top 25 rankings. Notably, Bishop Gorman emerged victorious with a solid win over Kahuku, while the preseason No. 1 teams, Corner Canyon from Utah and Colquitt County from Georgia, both had easy wins to start their seasons.

Among the highlights, Sierra Canyon made its debut in the rankings after a strong road win against Punahou in Hawaii. This weekend is especially exciting as many teams will be starting their seasons, featuring several must-watch matchups. The updated On3 Massey Ratings top 25 as of August 19 shows the fierce competition ahead.

One of the most anticipated games is Mater Dei’s season opener against No. 12 Centennial, happening this Thursday. The Monarchs, loaded with talent including several four-star and five-star recruits, are looking to claim another state title.

Meanwhile, Texas remains quiet for now, but teams are gearing up for their first games. Duncanville is looking to secure its third consecutive state title after back-to-back championship wins, kicking off its season on September 6 against South Oak Cliff.

Another team to watch is DeSoto, which is eager to start their season on August 31 against Creekside (Georgia) following an undefeated 2023 season. Leading their offense this year will be Texas A&M and SMU commitments.

This weekend also features a huge game in Florida as St. John Bosco takes on No. 16 Chaminade-Madonna in the ESPN High School Football Kickoff on August 24. Both teams have strong rosters filled with promising talent.

Bishop Gorman is also set to make waves this weekend as they face St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida, aiming to continue their impressive run after defeating Kahuku 33-7 last week. Other notable games include IMG Academy traveling to Corner Canyon for a showdown on August 30, showcasing some of the top talents in the nation.

As the excitement grows, the 2024 season promises to deliver thrilling matchups and showcase young talents ready to make their mark.
