On Tuesday, October 29, high school football action in Baltimore heated up as several teams battled for spots in the state quarterfinals. This week marked a thrilling series of regional championship games with standout performances across the board.

Big Wins for Sparrows Point and Harford Tech

In a commanding display, Sparrows Point defeated Patapsco with a score of 11-0, advancing to the quarterfinals. The defending Class 2A state champions showcased their talent as Reaghan Wheeler and Kylie Stambaugh found the back of the net twice each. The team had numerous contributors, with Madyson Costello, Ami Walters, Allysa Hartman, Lilah Kern, Lilly Parks, Gianna Orsino, and Allison Crowe adding to the scoreline.

Meanwhile, Harford Tech secured the 1A North Region II championship with a 4-0 victory over Patterson Mill. Ashley Shelton was instrumental, netting two goals, while Abby Downes contributed with a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Faith Orsini protected the net with an impressive seven saves.

Close Call for Bel Air and Liberty

Bel Air edged Poly 1-0 in a nail-biting overtime finish. A crucial goal from Ally Mace, assisted by Alyssa Foote, sealed Bel Air’s spot in the state quarterfinals. Notably, Emmy Schiller made two key saves to maintain a shutout.

Liberty also secured a win, defeating South Carroll 2-1. With goals from Aver Asom and Bryce Sarver, combined with Mady Smith‘s stellar seven saves, the Lions captured the 1A North Region I championship.

Other Key Matches

In another exciting match, C. Milton Wright triumphed over Rising Sun with a 1-0 victory, thanks to a goal by Mackenzi Milich in the second half. Additionally, Century continued their winning streak, winning 1-0 against Middletown as Lexi McGinnis scored the only goal of the game.

The excitement doesn’t stop there! Perry Hall defeated Kenwood 2-1, while Broadneck crushed Annapolis 3-0. Liberty also secured a strong team effort to beat Pikesville 3-1, and Century made a statement against Walkersville with a 4-1 victory.
