Southern California – High school football fans were treated to some thrilling action on Saturday, December 7, as several teams competed in the CIF Southern California Regional championship games. The day was filled with excitement, as teams pushed hard to earn a spot in their respective state championship games.
In Division 1-A, Edison secured a nail-biting victory over Granite Hills with a final score of 34-28. The standout performer for Edison was Julius Gillick, who racked up an impressive 240 yards on 39 carries and scored three touchdowns. Edison is set to face Central of Fresno in the Division 1-A state championship next Saturday, December 14, at Saddleback College.
Moving to Division 2-A, Palos Verdes shut down Bakersfield Christian with a score of 28-10. This win marks another strong showing for Palos Verdes, who has now posted a second-half shutout, securing their place in the CIF State Division 2-A title game.
In the Division 3-A championship, Rio Hondo Prep defeated Poway with a score of 28-14. This victory means the Kares will make their first appearance in a state championship game on Saturday, December 15, at Long Beach City College’s Veterans Stadium.
Division 4-A brought a surprise twist as St. Pius X-St. Matthias overcame a challenging season to defeat St. Augustine with a score of 28-7. After a tough 1-9 regular season, St. Pius X is now headed to the state championship game against NorCal champion Sonora next Saturday at Long Beach City College’s Veterans Stadium.
In other games, Palmdale edged out Selma with a close score of 41-38 in Division 5-A, while Monte Vista recorded a solid win over Pasadena with a score of 41-21 in Division 6-A. Lastly, Pioneer dominated Panorama, shutting them out with a score of 24-0. This win allows the Titans to advance to the regional bowl game next week.
With all these results, the excitement continues to build as these talented teams prepare for their upcoming championship matches. Fans are eagerly anticipating the clash of skill, strategy, and determination in the coming weeks.
