Friday night was packed with thrilling high school football in Delaware County. The spotlight was on the Undefeated Olentangy Liberty as they faced off against Olentangy Berlin, while Delaware Hayes aimed to keep their winning streak alive against Big Walnut. These games were part of the Week 4 coverage, with teams starting their league play in various conferences including OCC-Capital and OCC-Buckeye.
In the highly anticipated game between Liberty and Berlin, Liberty took control right from the start. They launched an impressive opening drive, traveling 65 yards in eight plays, capped by a 1-yard touchdown run from Antonio Kish, putting them ahead 7-0. Quarterback Andrew Leonard excelled, completing all four of his passes for 52 yards during the drive. Berlin struggled initially, managing only one first down and 23 yards in the first quarter.
Liberty extended their lead to 14-0 with a second TD from Leonard, this time a 5-yard pass to Christian Moulton. Berlin responded just before halftime as QB Aiden Eviston scored on a short run, closing the gap to 14-7. However, Liberty’s Moulton caught a spectacular 71-yard pass from Leonard, pushing the score to 21-7 at halftime.
The third quarter had more ups and downs as Berline connected on a 78-yard touchdown from Eviston, narrowing Liberty’s lead to 21-14. Fast forward to the final moments, Berlin battled back and took the lead with a successful two-point conversion, winning the game 22-21.
Meanwhile, in another exciting match, Walnut Ridge went up against Africentric. The game took an unexpected twist when Africentric’s defense scored a touchdown after a fumble recovery, but soon Walnut Ridge turned the tables. They scored consecutive touchdowns, including two defensive touchdowns to secure a convincing 36-18 victory and a perfect record of 4-0.
In the last highlighted game, Big Walnut took on Delaware Hayes. Big Walnut kicked off strong with a field goal and an interception return for touchdown, starting off ahead 10-0. Even though Delaware managed to stay close, Big Walnut pulled ahead decisively, concluding the game with a score of 41-21.
The Friday night lights showed great competitiveness among the high school teams, with several exciting matchups that are sure to be talked about in Delaware County for weeks to come!
