Savannah, Ga. – The first Friday night of high school football in the Coastal Empire kicked off with plenty of excitement as fans packed the stands at Calvary Day School. However, the atmosphere took a turn for the worse when an altercation broke out, leading officials to cancel the game.
The incident occurred during halftime of a matchup between Calvary Day School and Beach High School. According to a statement from the Savannah Chatham Public School System, multiple fights erupted beneath the home side stands, as well as in the surrounding spectator areas and parking lot. It’s important to note that neither team’s players were involved in the disturbance.
A report from the Savannah Police Department indicated that a 14-year-old was arrested due to the fight. The Savannah Chatham Public School System also clarified that any rumors about a weapon being present at the event were false.
As a result of the chaos, officials were left with no choice but to declare the game a no-contest, ending it prematurely. Fans had gathered to enjoy what was expected to be an exciting evening of high school football, and the sudden cancellation left many disappointed.
Before the disruption, the game showcased some promising plays, and highlights can be found through various channels. While the events of the night were unfortunate, the hope remains that future games will proceed smoothly without any incidents.
