Perry Township is buzzing with excitement as the high school football season launches once again. Last night, the Battle of 13th Street returned as the Perry Panthers faced off against their rivals, the Central Catholic Crusaders, at Keith Wakefield Stadium. The Panthers showcased their dominance, ending the night with a decisive 35-0 victory, marking their third consecutive win in this annual rivalry.
The Perry defense was nothing short of impressive. They managed to shut out Central Catholic, limiting them to just 175 total yards and forcing three crucial turnovers. One of the standout moments came from Perry’s Kyson Walker, who scored two touchdowns and made significant contributions on special teams with a 54-yard punt return and a 32-yard kickoff return.
Caelob Hundley also had a fantastic game, rushing for 123 yards on only 10 carries, including an 84-yard run that set up another Perry touchdown. Central Catholic had a glimmer of hope late in the first half when they marched deep into Perry territory. However, Perry’s Dominic Scott intercepted a pass, snuffing out that drive and reclaiming momentum for his team.
Throughout the game, Perry’s offense demonstrated their prowess. They started strongly, quick off the blocks with a 12-yard touchdown run from Walker, just over two minutes into the game. By the end of the first quarter, the Panthers held a solid 21-0 lead after two more touchdowns, including a 10-yard run from quarterback Austin Mattox.
As the game progressed, Perry continued to pull further ahead. A spectacular 24-yard touchdown run from Walker in the fourth quarter sealed the game at 35-0. This victory not only showcases their skill but sets the tone for what fans can expect for the rest of the season. With a strong start already in the books, the Perry Panthers are a team to watch as the high school football season unfolds.
