High School Football Rankings Heat Up Across the Nation

As the high school football season begins to take shape, major developments are taking place nationwide. This past weekend marked the kickoff for many teams in Texas, resulting in a significant shake-up in the national high school football rankings.

The On3 Massey Ratings top 25 has seen the top seven teams remain unchanged, but Oklahoma has made a strong appearance with four teams now listed among the nation’s best. After defeating preseason No. 10 Bixby, Owasso has made a considerable leap into the rankings, rising all the way to No. 11. Meanwhile, schools from Ohio, Texas, and Illinois have also made notable moves, contributing to an exciting weekend of football.

This coming weekend will see four top-25 matchups, further intensifying the competition. The updated On3 Massey Ratings as of September 2 are as follows:

  • Mater Dei (No. 1) – After a strong season opener, they are preparing for a highly anticipated matchup against No. 7 Bishop Gorman this Friday.
  • Duncanville (No. 2) – The Panthers will play their first game of the season against South Oak Cliff.
  • DeSoto (No. 3) – Showcasing dominance with a 70-0 victory over Creekside, they will face No. 20 North Crowley this weekend.
  • St. John Bosco (No. 4) – With a 71-14 win over El Paso Eastwood, they gear up for a game against Sierra Canyon.
  • Southlake Carroll (No. 5) – The Dragons successfully began their season with a solid performance and will take on Hebron next.
  • North Shore (No. 6) – Following a shutout win, they prepare for a game with Crowley.
  • Bishop Gorman (No. 7) – The Gaels are looking forward to their match against Mater Dei.

Other notable teams climbing the ranks include Guyer, who received a four-spot jump to No. 5 after a thrilling win, and Westlake, which nudged into the top 10 following a decisive victory against Prosper. Meanwhile, Owasso joined the rankings for the first time, signifying an exciting start to the season.
