High School Football Roundup
This past Saturday saw some exciting high school football action across various cities. In Montville, the home team secured a convincing victory over Plainfield with a final score of 7-2. Montville was dominant throughout the game, scoring four goals in the first half alone. Allie Kondash led the charge for Montville, netting two goals, while teammate MacKenzie O’Donnell also made a significant contribution with two goals of her own.
For Plainfield, it was a tough outing, with Leila Mendez scoring their only goal in the first half. Keriana Heredia added another in the second, but it proved to be too little, too late. Despite the loss, Plainfield had some notable performances, with goalkeeper Makayla Williams making 13 saves.
In another matchup, Lyman Memorial cruised past New London with a 7-0 victory. The team was in fine form, with Emily McKelvey and Avery Volle each scoring twice. Lyman’s defense, led by goalkeeper Phoebe Carpenter, kept New London off the scoreboard with only two shots on goal.
Old Saybrook faced East Hampton and won 4-1. Arianna Fox scored twice for Old Saybrook, while Abbie Miller was the lone goalscorer for East Hampton.
In a close encounter, Oxford edged out Watertown 2-1. Goals came from Gavin Shupp and Lucas Arnold for Oxford, while Watertown’s lone goal came from an own goal by Oxford.
