High School Football Season Kicks Off in Greater Cincinnati

As the sun rose over Cincinnati, excitement filled the air with the start of the 2024 high school football season. The first game on Thursday saw Elder take down Withrow with a score of 28-6, setting the tone for an action-packed weekend. Despite that season opener, it was the games scheduled on Friday and Saturday that really highlighted the serving of over 60 matchups in the area for Week 1.

On Saturday night, Hamilton put in a defensive masterclass against Badin, restricting them to just 151 total yards and managing a shutout with a score of 15-0. The Big Blue‘s Gracen Goldsmith led the offense with 95 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Antonio Mathis completed 16 of 21 passes for 132 yards.

In another matchup, Highlands edged out Lexington Catholic in a close contest that ended 17-7. Despite gaining 322 total yards compared to their opponents’ 170, the Bluebirds had to work hard to secure their victory, with touchdowns from Isaac Niemann and Adam Surrey.

Campbell County put on a show, impressively crushing Scott with a score of 63-27, thanks to star performances from Lucas Anthrop, who not only passed for three touchdowns but also made significant contributions on the ground with two rushing touchdowns and 189 rushing yards.

Anderson announced their state tournament intentions emphatically, taking down South Oldham with a resounding 51-6 victory. Quarterback Justice Burnam dazzled with 296 passing yards, finishing with five touchdowns.

A thrilling finish was seen as Oak Hills edged out Turpin 34-31 with a last-second field goal by kicker Jaxson Dorsel. In another close matchup, West Clermont narrowly defeated Mount Healthy, winning 20-18.
