Week 3 Update: High School Football Rankings in Washington, D.C.
As the third week of the 2024 District of Columbia high school football season wraps up, the top teams in the area are proving their dominance, as the On3 Massey Ratings show little change in the rankings. As of September 18, six of the top ten teams remain undefeated, while only three teams among those ranked from 11 to 25 can claim the same.
Top Teams in the District
At the top of the list is Gonzaga, continuing their impressive defensive streak by not allowing teams to score in double digits this season. During their recent game, they held Loyola Blakefield to just seven points, while their offense shined with Jason Lindsay throwing for 204 yards and two touchdowns. David Fred added 149 rushing yards and two touchdowns to the scorecard, and Lincoln Fisher contributed with 118 receiving yards. Upcoming, Gonzaga will face fifth-ranked Archbishop Carroll on September 20.
In second place, St. John’s Cadets have only allowed seven points in their last two games while scoring a staggering 94. They recently scored 52 points against Archbishop Carroll, supported by Breyon Williams‘ three rushing touchdowns. St. John’s will look to keep the momentum going against Friendship Collegiate.
Friendship Collegiate sits at third, with an exceptional defense that held opponents to just six points across their first three games. They will face a tough challenge against fourth-ranked Dunbar, who boasts the third-best offense after scoring impressive totals of 43, 60, and 52 points in their first three outings.
Other Notable Teams
Moving down the list, Archbishop Carroll is in fifth after struggling against St. John’s but hopes to bounce back against Gonzaga. In sixth place, the Roosevelt Roughriders show a strong defense with only 16 points allowed in two games. With standout performances from David Anderson and Deyon Smith, they plan to build on their success this Friday against Washington.
The Bulldogs remain in seventh, achieving a convincing 42-21 win over Jackson-Reed. The team aims to close their September schedule against Pope John Paul the Great Catholic. In eighth is the Woodson Warriors, who faced a tough match against Martinsburg, but they hope to rebound in their upcoming games.
As the teams gear up for another series of matches starting September 20, the excitement in Washington, D.C. high school football continues to rise. Fans are eager to see who will maintain their winning ways and who might spring a surprise in the upcoming games.
