Exciting High School Sports Matchups This Week in Turner, Maine

Turner, Maine – High school sports are buzzing this week with thrilling matchups across the area. Starting with the Mt. Blue Cougars taking on the Messalonskee Eagles in field hockey on Monday at 5 p.m. The Eagles, boasting an impressive record of 6-2, are riding high with five consecutive wins, including overtime victories against defending champion Skowhegan and another strong contender, Brewer. On the other hand, the Cougars, also at 6-2, are a rising force this season. Both of their losses were by just one goal to tough teams – Skowhegan and Mt. Ararat.

Next up on Tuesday at 6 p.m., fans can catch the clash between Belfast and Cony in field hockey. This matchup features two Class B North teams in great form, with the Rams (8-2) on a seven-game winning streak, scoring an impressive 41 goals in their last three matches. The Lions (9-1), also with seven straight wins, will be looking to build on their recent dominating 7-0 victory over Messalonskee.

For soccer enthusiasts, Portland will face Windham on Friday at 6:30 p.m. This game is a rematch of last year’s Class A South semifinal, where No. 4 Portland upset No. 1 Windham in a nail-biting shootout. Both teams are currently among the top four in their competitive league, promising an exciting showdown.

This weekend, golf fans have their eyes on the state championships, happening over Friday and Saturday. Among the standout stories is Jade Haylock, who is aiming to conclude her stellar 2024 season with a fourth Class B individual girls championship. Additionally, Alexis McCormick of Oxford Hills is looking to capture her second consecutive Class A individual girls title, while St. Dom’s aims to defend their Class C championship.

Finally, on Saturday, Leavitt will take on Freeport in field hockey at 11:30 a.m. This game is significant as both teams — the reigning state champion Falcons at 8-0 and the undefeated Hornets at 10-0 — head into the match without any losses. However, both teams face challenging games leading up to the showdown, ensuring that the stakes will be high.

With all these exciting games coming up, fans have plenty to look forward to in the world of high school sports.
