High School Sports Roundup: Competitive Matches Highlight Recent Action

In recent high school sports, action-packed games showcased the talent and skills of local teams. Dennis-Yarmouth (9-3-2) faced a rematch against Monomoy (14-0-2) in field hockey on Wednesday. Following their surprising 1-1 tie three weeks ago, Monomoy managed to secure a 3-0 victory this time around. The Sharks’ goals came from Mia Zimmerman, Samantha Clark, and Sophie Larivee, with assists from Emily Layton and Sam Clarke. Goalkeeper Maddy Swett shut out D-Y by only allowing three shots throughout the game.

In other action, Notre Dame (H) suffered a tough loss against Barnstable, finishing at 4-1. The Red Hawks dropped to 1-10-2 with Samantha Marczely scoring their lone goal, assisted by Shelby Locascio. Meanwhile, Nauset secured a clear win over Falmouth with a score of 4-0, keeping their playoff hopes alive.

The Hull Falcons also faced challenges, losing to Mashpee 1-0, while West Bridgewater put on a strong performance against Bourne, defeating the Canalmen 5-1. In a tightly contested game, Nantucket edged out Dennis-Yarmouth 3-2, with notable plays from Aldo Lemus and Anderson Diaz.

In volleyball, teams continued their season with impressive displays. Barnstable swept Nauset 3-0, with standout performances from Bella Magalhaes and Molly Colantuono. The Dolphins from Dennis-Yarmouth took a 3-1 victory over Falmouth, with Mariah Eaton leading the offense with 17 kills.

In girls’ cross country, Falmouth defeated Dennis-Yarmouth with a final score of 45-18, while showcasing impressive individual times. On the golf course, Barnstable narrowly missed qualifying for state championships by just four shots in a challenging competition.
