High School Sports Roundup: Friday’s Action in Lyman Hall and Beyond

On a chilly Friday evening, teams across Connecticut took to the field for a night filled with high school football action. In Lyman Hall, the girls’ soccer team secured a hard-fought victory against Mercy, ending the match with a score of 3-1. The offensive efforts from Lyman Hall were led by Ella Cramner, Mattingly Andrews, and Kaylin Findley, who each scored a goal. For Mercy, Catalina Koji found the back of the net but it proved to be too little too late. This win improves Lyman Hall’s record to 4-12, while Mercy falls to 2-13-1.

In the FCIAC quarterfinals, the game between Brien McMahon and Fairfield Ludlowe ended in a 1-1 draw, but McMahon emerged victorious 3-2 in penalty kicks. Over in New Haven, Hopkins dominated Cheshire Academy, winning convincingly 3-0. The goals for Hopkins came from Tommy Pont Strong, Sean Studley, and Nate Huang. Goalkeeper Michael Illuzzi recorded four saves, while Cheshire Academy’s Vlad Damian had a busy night with eight saves.

In the NVL quarterfinal clash, Seymour and Ansonia ended 0-0, but Seymour pulled off a win after a nail-biting penalty shootout, taking the match 3-1 on penalties. Seymour’s Ashlin Galietta stood out with six saves during regulation, while Ansonia’s Weston Ahern made a staggering nine saves. The penalty shootout saw successful shots from Seymour’s Belden, Guarino, and Rivera.

Meanwhile, Morgan delivered a solid performance against Haddam-Killingworth, winning the match 3-0. The goals for Morgan came from Kate Gardner, Sadie Passante, and Rachel Spaziano, who successfully converted a penalty kick. Haddam-Killingworth’s goalkeeper Jordan Belanger faced a barrage of shots, making an impressive 21 saves.
