High School Sports Roundup: Saturday Results
This past Saturday saw some exciting high school sports action across Connecticut with thrilling finishes and standout performances in soccer and other fall sports.
In Wilton, the girls’ soccer team dominated Glastonbury with a strong score of 7-1. Sabrina Sharfuddin led the charge for Wilton, scoring two goals and assisting two more, helping her team improve to a 9-1 record. Other goals came from Clara Fielden, Mary Sylvester, Bridget Grosso, Casey O’Connor, and Liza Fogelson, while Glastonbury’s only response came from Zoe White. Wilton’s goalkeepers, Mary Schwartz and Ava Salvino combined for 5 saves, while Maddie O’Connell of Glastonbury was kept busy with a total of 21 saves.
Over at Branford, the boys’ soccer team edged New Canaan 2-1 with Aliza Giordano scoring both goals, including the game-winner in overtime with just 6:29 left on the clock. Cara Passios found the net for New Canaan, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
In another thrilling match, Hamden claimed victory over Sheehan with a score of 5-0. Ava Martin and Jozie Becker were key players, with Becker contributing heavily to the scoreboard. Hamden’s success reflects their strong season, bringing their record to 9-2-0.
Seymour also had a good day, blanking Torrington 3-0. Joey Carrafiello scored twice, while Nathan Ferriera added another goal, highlighting their growing strength as they also improved to 9-2.
In girls’ soccer, Bethel showcased their skills, scoring 5-0 against New Milford. Laina Caffrey was a standout with two goals, while Emma Perrotti in goal helped secure the shutout with a couple of essential saves.
East Lyme’s boys soccer squad also shone with a solid performance against Woodstock Academy, winning 3-0, while Waterford took down NFA with a similar scoreline of 5-0.
With these results, the high school teams are looking to build momentum as the season progresses. Fans can look forward to more thrilling matches as the playoffs approach.
