High School Sports Roundup from the Twin Cities
This week in high school sports across the Twin Cities and beyond, exciting matches filled the schedule, especially in soccer and volleyball. The youngsters put their skills to the test and fans showed up to cheer for their teams.
Soccer Highlights
In the Class 3A State Tournament semifinals, Eagan triumphed over Minneapolis Washburn with a narrow 1-0 victory after extra time. Maple Grove also shone, defeating Andover 3-1. Meanwhile, in the Class 2A semifinals, Holy Angels secured a spot in the finals by beating Orono 2-0, along with Totino-Grace, which outperformed Blake with a similar score.
In Class 1A, Rochester Lourdes advanced past St. Cloud Cathedral in a thrilling match that ended 4-3. Another notable game saw St. Paul Academy face Pine Island, ending in a scoreless draw, but the Academy took the win in a 4-3 shootout.
Girls’ Soccer
This week also saw action in the girls’ soccer Class 3A consolation game, where Eagan tied East Ridge 2-2. In the Class 2A third-place match, Mankato East edged out Orono with a 1-0 victory, and Esko secured a 3-1 win over St. Charles in Class 1A.
Volleyball Action
Shifting gears to volleyball, the Class 4A Section 1 semifinals saw Lakeville North defeat New Prague in a solid match, finishing with scores of 25-11, 25-21, 20-25, and 25-16. Lakeville South followed suit, overcoming Farmington with a score of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-13.
In the Section 3 championship, East Ridge battled Eagan and came out on top after a tense five-set match, final scores being 25-22, 19-25, 27-25, 24-26, and 15-5. Champlin Park and Apple Valley also secured their championships in Sections 5 and 6, respectively.
