‘We are ever so grateful’: Man honored for saving family from Rock Hill home fire

In a remarkable show of courage and quick thinking, a local man from Rock Hill, South Carolina was honored on Monday night for his heroic actions in saving a family from their burning home last month. The man, Dale Hoyles, was recognized by the Rock Hill City Council with a proclamation acknowledging his bravery and service.

The terrifying episode unfolded on Summit Street on the late evening of July 11. Hoyles, who was driving home from work, noticed smoke and flames billowing from a nearby house. Promptly calling 911, he proceeded to alert the occupants of the home without hesitation.

Hoyles recounts the moment

Reflecting on the incident, Hoyles stated, “I beat on the door and I rang the doorbell at the same time, and I happened to get someone to the door. I was telling them to come out because their house was on fire. I’m glad I did. I’m glad they were together when they came out.”

The Rock Hill City Council meeting saw the room filled with admiration and gratitude for Hoyles. His quick action and fearlessness were hailed as the reasons the family made it out of the burning house safely.

Gratitude from the saved family

In an emotional statement, a woman, whose mother and grandmother were rescued from the burning house, expressed her deep appreciation. “We are ever so grateful for Mr. Hoyles for helping get Grandma and Mom out of the house and that their lives were spared, even though the house was not,” she said, her voice breaking with emotion.

Despite the tragic loss of their home, the family stated that they are forever thankful to Hoyles. His swift response to the emergency not only alerted them to the danger but also ensured their safe evacuation from the house before it was consumed by the fire.

Recognition for bravery

The proclamation by the Rock Hill City Council lauded Hoyles for his quick thinking and courageous actions. The Council expressed hope that his steadfastness and selflessness serve as an example to the community
