Palm Beach County, FL – Due to the imminent threat of Hurricane Helene, the Palm Beach County School District has announced that all public schools will be closed on Thursday. With expectations that the hurricane will make landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region on Thursday evening, officials have prioritized the safety of students and staff.
In a statement released by the district, they emphasized that “all extracurricular activities, after-school programs, sports, school meetings, and other on-campus events are canceled.” This decision affects various athletic events that were previously scheduled for Thursday. The National Hurricane Center and local emergency management officials have indicated that anticipated sustained winds may exceed limits deemed safe for school bus operation.
Some private institutions have also decided to adjust their schedules in light of the hurricane. For instance, Oxbridge Academy has canceled several sports events including Wednesday’s girls golf match, as well as Thursday’s boys golf, middle school volleyball, and cross country competitions.
Additionally, the much-anticipated football game between Inlet Grove and King’s Academy has been rescheduled. The match will now take place on Monday, September 30, at 6 p.m.
As the community braces for Hurricane Helene, all football and volleyball events originally set for Thursday have been postponed or canceled. Officials urge everyone to stay informed and be prepared as they navigate these weather challenges. The safety of all residents remains a top priority during this time.
