IUPUI Jaguars Suffer Defeat Against Winthrop at Rock Hill Classic, Loses 74-61

Jaguars Tripped Up by Winthrop at Rock Hill Classic, 74-61

Indianapolis, IN – The day was full of anticipation as the IUPUI Athletics took to the floor for their match against Winthrop at the Rock Hill Sports & Event Center. However, the game didn’t turn out as planned for IUPUI – losing by a decisive 74-61 score to Winthrop.

Jaguars Struggle on the Floor

The Jaguar’s offense struggled mightily, registering a low shooting rate, hitting just 40 percent from the floor. More startling were their performance from beyond the arc, hitting a meager 3-of-17 (17.6 percent) of their three-point shots.

Free throws were another area where the team struggled, with Winthrop outscoring the Jaguars 23-12 at the stripe. Unfortunately, these statistics painted a grim picture for the IUPUI team, ultimately contributing to their defeat.

Individual Performances

It was not all doom and gloom for the Jaguars, as some players put up notable individual performances. Despite the disappointing team performance, Kidtrell Blocker put up an impressive show, tallying a career-high 15 points on a 7-of-12 shooting.

Closely following behind Kidtrell’s effort, Jlynn Counter fell just shy of a double-double putting up 13 points and snatching nine rebounds. A notable mention also goes to Bryce Monroe who also finished the game with 11 points.

Despite their efforts, the Jaguars fell to a determined Winthrop side that saw four of their players hitting double figures. Leading the pack for Winthrop was Kelton Talford who put up 17 points, closely followed by K.J. Doucet who added 16 for the Eagles.

A Look at the Numbers

IUPUI seemed to struggle throughout the match, committing a whopping 24 fouls against Winthrop’s 14. This disproportionate fouling led to a significant discrepancy in free-throw attempts as Winthrop made 34 attempts, compared to IUPUI’s 13. Winthrop made the most of their chances, with 23 made throws compared to IUPUI’s 12.

Up Next for IUPUI

Despite the setback, there’s no time for the Jaguars to dwell on the loss. They are set to march on to the next challenge as they face off against Holy Cross on Sunday at noon, hoping to bounce back and secure a much-needed win.
