Rock Hill, SC – It’s with heavy hearts that the community bids farewell to a remarkable individual, Jefferson Abelt, who passed away on March 19, 2025, at the young age of 46 after a brave battle with various types of cancer. Jefferson was not just a husband and father; he was a beloved friend, a dedicated Navy veteran, and a man who embraced life with passion and spirit.

A Life of Service and Adventure

Born on June 3, 1978, Jefferson graduated from Little Falls Community High School in 1996, a year filled with promise. Shortly after graduation, he decided to enlist in the United States Navy, where he served from 1996 to 2002. Jefferson was proud to be a part of the Navy’s Nuclear Propulsion Program, showcasing his talent and intelligence through rigorous training at the NFAS Machinist Mate A School and spending a year at the Naval Academy Prep School.

His service aboard the U.S.S. Carl Vinson took him to the Persian Gulf and Arabian Sea, where he performed as a Nuclear Propulsion Plant Operator. Jefferson’s years in the Navy prepared him for excellence in all aspects of life, highlighting his commitment and attention to detail.

A Career Built on Excellence

After his time in the Navy, Jefferson started his career with GE in 2005. His colleagues admired him for his expertise, attention to detail, and, most importantly, his humor that brightened even the dullest days. His last position as Outage Manager covered multiple International Paper mills from Georgia to Virginia, further establishing his reputation in the industry.

A Heart Full of Love

Jefferson’s roots may have extended from Rock Hill to Duluth and Two Harbors, MN, but his heart was undeniably anchored in family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Jessica, and a loving father to his children: Spencer, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Reagan, Beckett, Myles, and Thorfin. This vibrant family life brought him immeasurable joy and fulfillment, and he loved nothing more than creating lasting memories with them.

Adventure, Fun, and Memories

Jefferson was known for his adventurous spirit. From canoe trips to the BWCAW and scuba diving to thrilling motorcycle rides, his zest for life was contagious. Concerts and travel adventures filled his weekends, inviting friends and family into his world of hijinks and troublemaking.

He shared his love of life with his kids, often introducing them to fire and creative humor, fostering a deep bond through playful experiences. Jefferson was the kind of dad who could turn an everyday moment into a treasured memory, making sure his family was always engaged in the joys of life.

A Community Impacted by Loss

Jefferson leaves behind a loving family, including his mother, Joanne Marburg, father, Jim (Chris) Abelt, sister, Andrea (Erin) Geary, niece, Maya, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends.
