Greenville, SC – A suspect who allegedly stabbed a police dog (K-9) was shot by deputies in a dramatic sequence of events in Greenville County. The area around Wade Hampton Boulevard was cordoned off with a significant law enforcement presence as a result of this deputy-related shooting.
The operation began just before 3 p.m., with the deputies in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security, attempting to serve warrants for felony charges on a suspect. The encounter took a violent turn when the suspect stabbed the K-9 multiple times, leading the deputies to react.
The injured K-9 was promptly transported to an emergency veterinary clinic for surgical assistance. After post-surgery, deputies have reported that the K-9 is “making a good recovery”.
Following the stabbing of the K-9, three deputies fired their weapons at the suspect, striking him at least once. The suspect was consequently transported to the hospital, with no current confirmation on his medical condition. Notably, no deputies or other law enforcement personnel were hurt during the incident.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been summoned for an objective investigation as part of standard protocol. Currently, the public is being urged to avoid the area from Pleasantburg Drive to Pine Knoll Drive and Pine Knoll Drive to Waddell Road.
A detailed incident report along with any visual footage available will be presented to the community in a critical incident community briefing scheduled for June 27th. Stay tuned for more details as the story develops.
