Kansas High School Cross Country State Championships Sees Thrilling Races and Outstanding Performances

Kansas High School Cross Country State Championships Recap

Lawrence and Wamego, Kansas, played host this past Saturday to the exciting 2024 Kansas High School Cross Country State Championships. Students from various classes raced the demanding 5K courses, with the larger Classes 6A, 5A, and 3A competing at Rim Rock Farm and the smaller classes at Wamego Country Club.

Class 6A Results

In the Class 6A Boys, Garden City took home the top team score with 66 points, followed by Junction City with 101 and Shawnee Mission South close behind at 104. Notable medalist was Theel from Olathe West, clinching first place with an impressive time of 15:20.11.

On the girls’ side, Olathe West and Washburn Rural both scored 80 points, but a tie-breaker gave Olathe West the edge. Medalist honors went to Pickler from Junction City, finishing in 18:37.27.

Class 5A Highlights

In the Class 5A Boys, Spring Hill dominated with a low score of 35 points. Beckman15:23.94.

The Class 5A Girls saw St. James Academy come out on top with a score of 77 points. The leading medalist was Rupe from Salina Central, clocking in at 17:09.77.

Class 4A-1A Standouts

In Class 4A Boys, Wamego showed strong teamwork, finishing with a score of 52. The top runner was Muehler from McPherson, who won in 16:33.40. Meanwhile, in the Class 4A Girls event, Buhler clinched victory with a total of 78 points, while Keltner from Eudora secured the fastest time of 19:18.56.

Moving to Class 3A Boys, Holcomb seized first place by scoring 58 points. Medalist Tofteland from Wichita Trinity completed the race in 15:36.75. Meanwhile, the Class 3A Girls saw the competing teams fight closely, with Hesston taking home the trophy at 104 points, while Hein from Wichita Trinity led with a time of 18:26.90.

An electrifying day concluded with the Class 1A events, with Quinter dominating the boys’ race with just 29 points. Medalist Durst from Lebo triumphantly crossed the finish line at 16:53.20. The Class 1A Girls also saw an exciting finish, where South Gray won with a score of 34 points, and top medalist Boydston clocked in at 19:32.33.

Overall, it was a day filled with fantastic performances, showcasing the talent and dedication of these young athletes. From outstanding team efforts to individual medalists, the spirit of competition shined bright across Kansas.
