In a recent turn of events, the residents of Rock Hill can now enjoy authentic Mexican delicacies right in the heart of their city. The much-awaited Mexican bakery, La Estrella Pasteleria, opens its doors on Mount Gallant Road, adding another vibrant outlet to the bustling Mount Gallant Plaza nestled between Cherry and Celanese roads.
The owner of La Estrella Pasteleria, Raquel Estrada, isn’t a newcomer to the restaurant business. The 54-year-old Mexican native has been successfully running her food businesses for over 35 years. Raquel moved to Rock Hill in January with her eyes on a fresh start and to be closer to her family, and she’s found just that with the launch of her new bakery. “I’m really happy,” Estrada said. “For a long time, I’ve been really trying to get this business open. It’s like a dream come true for me.”
Estrada has been inspired by her father’s prolific bread-making business since her childhood in Mexico, which sowed seeds of passion and entrepreneurship in her. She embarked on a similarly successful venture in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and after selling it, she has now created a worthy successor to her previous restaurant here in Rock Hill.
Estrada started her Rock Hill journey from her eldest daughter’s house. Michelle Fuentes offered a home base for her mother’s passion, which they kick-started by selling homemade bread and cakes. The cuisine was so well-received that within several months, Estrada decided to open a full-fledged business in town – hence, La Estrella Pasteleria was born.
This family-run bakery has blossomed into a collective effort as Estrada’s youngest daughter, Lauren Ruby Estrada, who stays two hours away in North Carolina, regularly travels down to chip in during the opening weeks. “Everyone for the past six months was coming over and getting the bread (and cakes) from (my mom) … but she decided that she was going to open a business here,” Lauren Estrada described her mother’s motivation to begin anew.
Suited to both take-out and dine-in orders, La Estrella Pasteleria offers limited seating at their bakery. The eatery specializes not only in the usual bakery fare of cakes and pastries but also serves traditional Mexican bread and snacks. For those hot summer days, there are snow cones to beat the South Carolinian heat. The bakery is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., at 1204 Mt Gallant Rd #3, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
An exciting addition to Rock Hill’s roster of versatile food offerings, La Estrella Pasteleria invites locals and visitors alike to encounter authentic Mexican flavours wrapped in the warmth of family values.
