Tragic Drowning Incident at Lake Norman Claims Life of Local Man

LAKE NORMAN, N.C. – The local community is left shaken and in mourning after the tragic drowning incident that took place here over the holiday weekend. Emergency services have reportedly recovered the body of a 27-year-old swimmer who went missing in Lake Norman on July 4th

Victim Identified

The deceased has been identified as Miles Merritt, a resident of Charlotte. Merritt’s body was discovered late on Saturday, July 6th, near an area of the lake known as the Sandbar.

Search and Recovery Operations

According to sources, the search for Merritt started overnight on Thursday and continued into the early hours of Friday morning. It was resumed on Saturday, around the Sandbar area. The multi-agency rescue crew, consisting of both divers and surface-level responders, were searching for Merritt until his body was found.
