Rock Hill, S.C. experienced an unusual scene on Monday morning when two horses escaped from their pasture. The incident drew quick attention from local authorities, who acted promptly to ensure the safety of the animals and the surrounding traffic.
The York County Sheriff’s Department was alerted to the situation where two horses were found galloping freely along Handsmill Highway. The event unfolded early in the day, as deputies followed the horses from Adnah Church Road to Allision Creek Road. Their main objective was to prevent any potential accidents with passing vehicles.
Authorities confirmed that the horses had managed to break loose from their enclosure. The names of the horses were revealed later by a family member, who expressed gratitude for the deputies’ quick action. One of the horses, a black stallion named LOCO, and the other, a colt named Mayham, became the center of attention as they wandered near busy roads.
Mounted patrol members played a crucial role in the effort to wrangle the horses safely. They were able to guide the animals to the Campbell Road Convenience Center, where the horses awaited their owners. The spacious area provided a safe environment for the animals until their family arrived to take them back home.
After the horses were secured, a post was made on social media by the sheriff’s office. A local resident took to the comments to express heartfelt thanks for the attention given to LOCO and Mayham. The woman identified herself as the owner of the horses and shared her apologies for the incident. “So sorry and thank you for looking out for them!” she wrote.
This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability that can occur in everyday life and highlights the dedication of local law enforcement in ensuring community safety. Thanks to the swift action of the sheriff’s department and the mounted patrol, LOCO and Mayham were safely returned to their owners without any harm. The residents of Rock Hill can rest easy knowing that their local deputies are always ready to assist in unpredictable situations.
