ROCK HILL — September 11, 2024, marked a day of celebration as Clinton College proudly unveiled its new campus bookstore, the Margaret Neely Bookstore. This event was filled with joy and pride as alumni, students, and faculty came together for a special dedication to a cherished graduate, Margaret Neely, who has shown incredible support over the years.
Margaret Neely, who graduated in 1955, expressed her excitement about the bookstore, stating, “I usually visit Clinton every time I come to Rock Hill. The last time, my daughter wanted to buy some gifts, and there was no gift shop. That bothered me. This is a school that’s moving up.” It’s clear that Neely’s love for her alma mater is deeply rooted, and she was thrilled to see this much-needed addition come to life.
The opening of the Margaret Neely Bookstore fills a significant gap in campus life. President Lester McCorn echoed Neely’s sentiments, sharing, “We have not had an actual bookstore on campus in years. There’s a need for us to have a place in the marketplace.” He noted how often he sees apparel and merchandise from nearby schools while wishing for something from Clinton College to be proudly displayed.
Students and alumni alike can now rejoice! The bookstore offers a variety of merchandise, including Golden Bear T-shirts, hats, coffee mugs, and more, available for purchase throughout the week from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. This is a major step forward for the college, ensuring that everyone can show their Golden Bear pride, with products now readily available at 1029 Crawford Road, just past the security entrance.
Clinton College is witnessing significant growth, having welcomed its largest incoming freshman class this year with 120 new students. This expansion is not only evident in the student body but also through recent advancements in facilities, like the addition of the Academic Center for Excellence. This state-of-the-art building includes numerous classrooms and labs, providing an ideal environment for learning and development.
Neely’s commitment to Clinton College didn’t end when she graduated. After earning a master’s degree in counseling from the University of Buffalo and working as a counselor and teacher for 30 years, Neely remains dedicated to supporting her college. Even from afar, she has contributed to its growth and development, inspiring students with her journey.
With initiatives like the new bookstore and upcoming athletic programs such as archery and cycling set to launch next year, there’s a vibrant and exciting future on the horizon for Clinton College. Students can look forward to a college experience filled not just with academics but also pride in their institution. Neely remarked, “It’s exciting to see my college grow,” and all of Rock Hill seems to share in that sentiment.
The opening of the Margaret Neely Bookstore symbolizes much more than just a place to buy merchandise; it represents the growth and unity of the Clinton College community. As students proudly don their new shirts and hats, they’re also wearing a badge of honor that connects them to a legacy of education, perseverance, and community that has grown for over a century.
So, whether you’re a current student, an alum, or just someone who appreciates the journey of learning, make sure to swing by the new bookstore and grab a piece of the Clinton College spirit!
