Waxhaw, N.C. — In a heartfelt gathering that mirrored the community spirit of this small town, native Mark Carnes celebrated the publication of his first book on October 6. The event took place at Waxhaw United Methodist Church, marking a significant milestone for the author and pastor who has been influential in the area.
The book, titled “The Miracle of the Mundane: Falling in Love with Living”, was released on October 5, with a kickoff celebration held in nearby Kannapolis. During the local signing event, Carnes shared his journey and insights derived from four years of writing amid his responsibilities as a husband, father, and pastor.
Mark Carnes is a recognized figure in Union County, having served as pastor of He’s Alive Church since 2013. His reflections on personal growth and finding joy in everyday life have resonated deeply with his congregation and community. The book emphasizes the importance of perseverance and maintaining a positive outlook in life’s challenges.
The central message of Carnes’ writing advocates for focusing on the positive aspects of life. “Keep moving, keep hoping. Stay devoted and focus on what is right rather than what is wrong,” Carnes explained during the event. He noted that life often does not unfold as planned, making it crucial to find and appreciate small moments of joy and blessings.
Carnes also mentioned his surprise at discovering how emotionally affected he became while writing. He expressed a newfound acceptance of vulnerability, stating, “I used to think that crying and being emotional was not masculine.” Through his reflections, he hopes to teach his sons that it is acceptable to show emotions and learn from life’s lessons.
Throughout the writing process, Carnes learned the importance of slowing down and engaging more meaningfully with life experiences. He expressed a preference for reading print over digital screens, emphasizing that “life is worth living; every day, you get up run toward it, even the hard parts.”
A significant aspect of the book is its dedication to Carnes’ parents, highlighting their influence on his life and journey. He acknowledged the collective effort required to bring the book to fruition, stating, “My name is on the front of the book. There are hundreds of names that could be with my name, (people) that helped make this book happen.”
As a former student of Wingate College, Carnes maintains strong ties to his community. His journey into music, producing contemporary Christian gospel songs in Nashville, has also influenced his writing, providing a unique perspective on faith and everyday living.
Through his book, Mark Carnes invites readers to embrace life fully, even with its challenges. He encourages them to focus on gratitude and stay aware of the blessings that fill each day. The resonance of his message and the joy of community made the book launch a memorable occasion for many.
