MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – On Friday, the case of a missing woman turned tragic as authorities found the victim’s remains hidden under a backyard firepit. The prime suspect, Sheridan Fogle, 54, has been charged with murder. In a hearing later the same day, Fogle, who had been transferred from an Orangeburg jail to the Myrtle Beach facility earlier, was denied bond by the judge. Owing to the gravity of the murder charge, his bond can only be determined by a circuit court.
Penni Whiteside, 51, was reported missing on May 11, 2022. She had been residing with Fogle on the 600 block of 1st Avenue South which became a focal point in the ensuing investigation. As the police followed leads and took statements from witnesses, a chilling possibility surfaced; Whiteside may have been buried near her home, in the backyard under a firepit. Swift action by the law enforcement secured a search warrant for the said property.
On June 12, during the execution of the search warrant, Whiteside’s remains were discovered at the suspected burial spot in the property’s backyard. The findings caused a commotion among local residents, who expressed shock at the news of Fogle’s arrest the following day. It is currently unclear when Fogle’s next hearing will be. Although the Horry County Coroner’s Office has recovered the victim’s remains, the cause of death has not yet been released.
Sheridan Fogle, already embroiled in the case, is now officially facing murder charges. During his hearing on Friday, bond was denied due to the seriousness of the allegations. The Municipal court has stated that the decision on Fogle’s bond can only be made by a circuit court judge at a later hearing, the date of which remains unknown.
This tragic event has left Myrtle Beach residents shocked and distressed. While the investigation continues, locals hope for justice for Whiteside, as the authorities stay determined to uncover the entire truth surrounding her untimely death. Stay tuned for more updates on this unfolding story.
