Mississippi High School Football Rankings Shake Up After Thrilling Week

This week in Jackson, the Mississippi high school football scene has seen a major reshuffling in the rankings following an exciting week of games. The latest On3 Massey Ratings have been released, revealing some surprising results as teams jostle for position.

The standout moment came when Clinton managed to upset then-No. 1 Brandon in a nail-biting game that ended with a score of 65-62. This dramatic showdown not only sent shockwaves through the rankings but also left Brandon with a record of 2-1 for the season. Despite the loss, Brandon remains in the No. 2 spot. Star cornerback Preston Ashley, a four-star junior, is a key player to watch on their defense.

As a result of the top two teams falling, Starkville has soared to the No. 1 position after a solid 28-15 victory over Meridian. Starkville aims to return to the state championship after falling short last year. They will face a formidable challenge this Friday night as they head to play No. 6 Louisville, who has started strong with a 3-0 record.

Meanwhile, Madison Central gained traction by moving up one position to No. 3 after defeating then-No. 9 Gulfport 31-21 last week. They are preparing for another top-10 match against No. 16 Northwest Rankin.

Among other noteworthy movements, Tupelo continues to impress, now at No. 4 after a decisive 35-6 win over Hernando.

This week also saw Hattiesburg pull off a significant upset by defeating No. 2 Oak Grove 27-21, marking Oak Grove’s first loss of the season. Hattiesburg, now eyeing a matchup against Biloxi, has begun to gather momentum after earlier wins against Petal and Laurel.

With rankings shifting and teams battling hard, the upcoming games promise to deliver more excitement as the season progresses.
