Dallas Hosts Stunning Volleyball Upset

Dallas, TX – In a breathtaking display of athleticism, the unranked SMU Mustangs shocked the volleyball world by defeating the No. 2 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers on Tuesday night. The Mustangs swept the highly-touted Nebraska team with scores of 25-23, 25-21, and 25-18 in front of a record-breaking crowd of 6,773 at Moody Coliseum.

This victory not only handed Nebraska their first loss of the season but also marked the first defeat against an unranked team since 2017. Trailing behind at 21-16 in the first set, the Mustangs mounted an impressive comeback, winning nine of the next eleven points to clinch the set 25-23. SMU’s tenacity continued throughout the match, as they closed out the final set with a 12-4 run, demonstrating their dominance on the court.

Nebraska struggled significantly during the match, hitting only .171 as a team and committing 11 service errors. The Cornhuskers will have to regroup quickly, as they are set to face The Citadel on Thursday. Meanwhile, SMU will host Milwaukee on the same day, looking to build on their notable success.
