Indian Land is buzzing with excitement as plans accelerate for a new hospital campus that has been in the works for several years! The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Health is on the verge of kickstarting construction, which is great news for the community.
According to J. Scott Broome, the CEO of MUSC Health’s Catawba Division, the campus is moving forward swiftly. “We’re working hard on our permitting efforts,” he recently shared, indicating that breaking ground could happen as early as spring 2025. The project includes a sizeable 150,000-square-foot hospital and a 60,000-square-foot medical office building, specifically located off Charlotte Highway. This means more healthcare access is just around the corner!
In terms of timeline, the medical office building will open its doors first, expected between summer and fall of 2026. Following closely behind, the new hospital, a four-story facility, is set to welcome patients in the second half of 2027. Can you believe it? That’s not too far away!
Broome highlighted just how essential this development is for Indian Land. The community has experienced explosive growth along the U.S. 521 corridor in recent years. “Indian Land has become a community of sufficient size that it needs critical infrastructure,” he pointed out. The new addition will bring much-needed healthcare services that are typically expected in a town of this size.
As for what the hospital will offer, it’s designed to include 98 beds for various types of patients, such as intensive care, surgical, and those in labor/delivery. Broome mentioned, “The final bed count is still being finalized,” but with such a sizable structure, it’s clear that MUSC Health is dedicated to meeting community needs.
But that’s not all! The buzz around medical facilities is drawing in developers like bees to honey. For instance, recent reports have confirmed that NFM Properties is developing a 60,000-square-foot medical office space at Edgewater Corporate Park. There’s also chatter about “The Arches,” a new trio of medical office buildings that recently broke ground.
The area surrounding the hospital site is blossoming with activity! The 190-acre CrossRidge Center is expected to be another major mixed-use project, complete with a $150 million retail component that will even feature a Target store. Isn’t that just fantastic for residents?
Further enhancing the Indian Land landscape, Crosland Southeast received rezoning approval for “The Exchange at Indian Land.” This key project is anticipated to include a Costco Wholesale Corp. store, along with apartments and more retail spaces aimed at enhancing community life.
With all these developments, Indian Land is gearing up for a bright future. Residents can look forward to enhanced accessibility to medical care and a bustling array of retail options that are set to transform their daily lives.
As we countdown to the groundbreaking, it’s clear that the future looks promising for this growing community. From hospitals to shopping centers, Indian Land is on the map, and it’s a thrilling time to be part of it!
