New Jersey High School Football Season Heats Up: Rankings and Standout Teams After Three Weeks of Action

In New Jersey, the high school football season has kicked off with plenty of excitement, featuring standout matchups and unexpected outcomes. As the dust settles after the first three weeks of action, it’s clear that the competition is heating up on the gridiron. The latest rankings from the On3 Massey Ratings, a model that assesses teams based on game results, strength of schedule, and margin of victory, show some familiar faces at the top of the list.

Bergen Catholic, which held the preseason No. 1 spot, faced a serious challenge with a game against Florida’s IMG Academy, resulting in a 27-14 loss. However, the team quickly rebounded, dominating Ohio’s Washington 35-21 before continuing their success with a solid 31-10 win against New York’s Iona Prep—now leaving them with a record of 2-1.

Previously ranked No. 2, St. Joseph struggled in their first game against Baltimore St. Frances Academy, losing 31-21. They found their rhythm soon after, winning their next two games, including a decisive 43-0 victory over Archbishop Stepinac.

DePaul started strong with a 47-14 win against Pope John XXIII and continued with an impressive 28-17 win over Good Counsel in Maryland, moving them comfortably into the ranks.

Meanwhile, Don Bosco faces an incredibly tough schedule, opening against Archbishop Hoban, where they lost but later turned up the heat with a 44-0 win over Red Bank Catholic.

As teams continue to battle it out, fans anxiously watch this evolving landscape. With rankings shifting and teams stepping up, the New Jersey high school football scene is definitely one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
