Charlotte, NC – In a significant boost to the local economy, freight broker RXO Inc. has announced plans to invest nearly $14 million in an expansion of its headquarters in Charlotte’s Ballantyne area. This development will result in the creation of 216 new jobs and is part of RXO’s efforts to enhance its operational capabilities.
RXO, which currently operates out of two buildings totaling about 100,000 square feet, plans to increase its space to just over 150,000 square feet. This expansion comes on the heels of the company’s recent acquisition of Coyote Logistics for $1.025 billion, a move that positioned RXO as the nation’s third-largest freight broker.
The announcement came shortly after the North Carolina economic investment committee approved a package of incentives for the project, totaling nearly $2.5 million. The incentives are aimed not only at encouraging RXO’s expansion but also at ensuring the retention of 890 workers currently employed by the company in the state.
The new jobs will include positions for transportation brokers, operational and logistics specialists, as well as technology and data analysts, and sales and account managers. The average salary for these roles is projected to be at least $89,769 per year, providing substantial opportunities for prospective employees.
RXO’s CEO, Drew Wilkerson, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion, stating that, “RXO is thrilled to renew our commitment to Charlotte and expand our operations here.” He emphasized that North Carolina’s strategic location and the availability of a skilled workforce make it an ideal hub for transportation-related businesses.
The company anticipates the completion of its expansion by the end of 2026. Officials from RXO indicated that the decision to expand in Charlotte followed a thorough consideration of potential locations across North and South Carolina. The commitment to Ballantyne signifies RXO’s strong confidence in its current operational base.
This expansion is expected to have a positive ripple effect throughout the local economy, contributing to job growth, increased business activities, and a competitive edge for Charlotte as a logistics and transportation hub. As RXO grows, it can lead to increased partnerships with local suppliers and businesses, further stimulating economic activity in the region.
With RXO’s significant investment and job creation, Charlotte is poised to solidify its reputation as a key player in the freight and logistics industry, enhancing opportunities for its residents and fostering a vibrant economic environment.
