Newark, NY – The Newark High School soccer team made a strong statement in the Section V Class A quarterfinals on Thursday evening, overcoming a first-half deficit to defeat Wayne Central 2-1 at their home field. The victory propels Newark, now ranked No. 3, into the semifinals, where they will face the No. 2 seed, Brockport Central.
The match was held under mostly sunny skies, which became overcast in the afternoon. The weather was perfect for a thrilling high school sports event, with temperatures hovering around 60°F and light winds providing a pleasant atmosphere.
Wayne Central got off to an unexpected start with a first-half goal from senior Avery Bustamante-Seadeek, who scored with a high shot from 20 yards that caught the Newark goalkeeper off guard. This unfortunate misjudgment put Wayne Central up 1-0 at halftime, celebrating what seemed like a strong advantage.
However, Newark came into the second half determined to turn the game around. Kaiden Carr stepped up when it mattered most, netting the match-winning goal with just seven minutes left on the clock. Along with Carr, Deikan Bueg also contributed to the scoreboard, helping Newark secure a comeback victory.
With this win, Newark improved their record to 16-2, while Wayne Central ended their playoff run with a record of 12-6. Newark will now look to continue their winning streak as they prepare for the upcoming semifinals, scheduled for October 29 at 7:30 p.m. against Brockport Central at Gates Chili High School.
This thrilling match showcases the talent and resilience of the Newark soccer program, and fans are eagerly anticipating their next performance in the playoffs.
