Excitement Builds in Cities Across the NFL as Roster Cuts Loom

With the anticipation for the 2024 NFL regular season growing, cities across the league are buzzing with excitement. Teams are gearing up for their Week 1 matchups, but before they can dive into preparations, they must finalize their 53-man rosters.

The deadline for making these cuts is fast approaching. On Tuesday, August 28, all 32 teams must trim their rosters from a maximum of 90 players down to the required 53 by 4 p.m. EST.

This year’s cuts are particularly challenging; teams are faced with some tough decisions as many players are vying for spots. The vested veteran rule adds another layer to these decisions. A player becomes “vested” after completing four accrued seasons in the NFL, which allows them some added benefits if cut. For example, these players can bypass the waiver wire and, if they make the active roster in Week 1, their salaries are guaranteed.

Additionally, teams can keep up to four vested veterans on their practice squads, providing teams the option to save some big names on cut day without risking their release on the open market.

As teams scramble to finalize their rosters, an updated tracker of all 32 teams’ roster cuts is underway. Many players who are let go might get claimed by other teams or find their way back to their original teams’ practice squads for the upcoming season.

As the clock ticks down to the cut deadline, fans and teams alike are holding their breath, waiting to see which players will make the final cut and how rosters will shape up for the thrilling season ahead.
