In a bittersweet announcement, Pathways Community Center in York County is set to bid farewell to its Executive Director, Alex Greenawalt, after three and a half years of dedicated service. The board of directors expressed both gratitude and sadness over her impending departure, recognizing her impact on the organization’s mission to support those in need.
Under Greenawalt’s leadership, Pathways has seen significant growth and transformation. Her efforts were key in enhancing volunteer and donor engagement, which directly benefited over 16 on-site agencies dedicated to various social services. This engagement allowed the organizations to broaden their outreach and improve their programs.
One of Greenawalt’s major accomplishments included the successful renovation of a century-old building. This revitalization provided much-needed emergency shelter beds and created a modern auditorium for local organizations, churches, and businesses to host workshops and events. Additionally, she launched the Collective Impact Report in 2024, a project that underscored the critical work performed by local agencies by showcasing their contributions to improving community health, financial stability, and housing.
Throughout her time at Pathways, Greenawalt placed a strong emphasis on understanding the challenges faced by the homeless population. She initiated the Humanizing Homelessness project, aimed at shifting public perception by sharing personal stories of resilience from individuals experiencing homelessness. This initiative was designed to foster empathy within the community and encourage volunteerism, prayer, and financial support.
As Greenawalt prepares to leave her position, she reflects fondly on her journey and the relationships she fostered. “My proudest moments came from getting to know the people experiencing homelessness and understanding their stories,” she remarked. “My heart is forever changed by how I view humanity.” Her ambition has always been to inspire others to take action and create a lasting impact through community involvement.
Though the organization is saddened by her departure, it supports her decision to prioritize family and personal connections in her next career chapter. Greenawalt expressed her faith in the community, stating that her predecessor planted seeds of support that she had the opportunity to nurture and grow. With her move, she emphasized the importance of continuing Pathways’ mission by passing the baton to a competent successor.
To ensure a smooth transition, the board has already set plans in motion for her successor. The search for a new Executive Director is underway, and the Hiring Committee is actively seeking a leader equipped with a strategic mindset, collaborative spirit, and strong financial skills. The job description is publicly available for potential candidates who are committed to Pathways’ mission.
As York County prepares for this transition, there is hope that the next Executive Director will continue the legacy of growth, collaboration, and impactful service set forth by Greenawalt. This shift represents not just a change in leadership but also the continuation of a mission committed to uplifting the community.
