Peters Township, PA – As the high school football season gets into full swing, the 2024 Pennsylvania high school football landscape is shaking up. With the season kicking off earlier than normal this year, many teams have already played two games before the calendar hits September. The pleasant weather is an added bonus for players and fans alike, with temperatures comfortably dipping into the 50s overnight.
The latest twist in this year’s season comes from the Trib HSSN state rankings. A wave of change saw six teams drop out of the rankings across different classifications, clearing the way for six new teams to make their debut. The out-going teams are Central Catholic, Manheim Central, Selinsgrove, Wyomissing, Farrell, and Lackawanna Trail. New entrants include West Lawn Wilson, Garnet Valley, Jersey Shore, Scranton Prep, Taylor Riverside, and Clairton.
The top-ranked teams in each class remain steady, even with St. Joe’s Prep, ranked No. 1 in 6A, losing their season opener. They stay put for now alongside Peters Township in 5A, Aliquippa in 4A, Northwestern Lehigh in 3A, Troy in 2A, and Bishop Guilfoyle in Class A.
This weekend promises a remarkable matchup, featuring a battle of top-ranked teams: Imhotep Charter, currently holding the No. 3 spot in 6A, will host Chester, ranked No. 3 in 5A on Saturday. Both teams are hoping to keep their winning streaks alive as the competition heats up.
