PHILADELPHIA — In a significant move, the Philadelphia Eagles have traded for wide receiver Jahan Dotson, who was previously a first-round pick for the Washington Commanders in 2022. According to reports, the Eagles sent a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks in 2025 in exchange for Dotson and a fifth-round pick in 2025.
This trade allows the Eagles to strengthen their receiving corps, adding Dotson as their new No. 3 wide receiver. Dotson will join stars A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, both of whom received long-term contract extensions this offseason. This enhances the options available to quarterback Jalen Hurts, who now has a compelling array of playmakers, which also includes running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Dallas Goedert.
The Eagles had been experimenting with a variety of players at the wide receiver position during training camp, looking for a strong WR3. Veterans Parris Campbell and Britain Covey, along with rookie Johnny Wilson, were all in the mix for those first-team reps. However, Dotson’s arrival offers them a solid option.
At just 24 years old, Dotson has shown promise, recording 49 receptions for 518 yards and four touchdowns last season. Over his two seasons with the Commanders, he amassed 84 catches, totaling 1,041 yards and 11 touchdowns. However, he faced challenges in securing a solid position as the No. 2 receiver behind Terry McLaurin, prompting Washington to explore other options. The team recently drafted Luke McCaffrey in the third round, who demonstrated his potential in a recent game against the Miami Dolphins.
Dotson, who is best suited for the slot, struggled with consistency last season, notably having a drop percentage of 7.4%, ranking as one of the higher percentages in the league. With the Eagles now looking at a more dynamic receiving lineup, it remains to be seen how quickly Dotson can adapt to his new role and make an impact in Philadelphia.
