Preseason workouts are taking place at high schools throughout the region, and coaches and players alike are preparing for what promises to be an exciting season.

In the Class 6A division, Canon-McMillan is looking to turn their recent record of 15-18 into a winning formula this year. Central Catholic has welcomed Ryan Lehmeier as its new head coach, aiming to reclaim its spot among the elite. Over at North Allegheny, excitement is palpable as they chase a historic third straight WPIAL title, while all eyes are also on Norwin, which is returning to the 6A scene with quarterback Tristyn Tavares leading the charge.

Meanwhile, fans in Class 5A are keeping a lookout on several teams with championship potential, such as Franklin Regional, which seeks to make its mark despite being overlooked. The team has been focused on honing its skills during the offseason and is ready to prove critics wrong. New faces are also expected at the helm for teams like Mt. Lebanon, as Greg Perry takes over, hoping to restore winning ways.

In the lower classifications, teams like West Mifflin are gearing up to tackle the challenges of moving up to Class 4A. With a strong roster and key players returning, there is optimism for a promising season ahead. The returning head coach, Bill Cherpak, at Thomas Jefferson is aiming to uphold the program’s storied tradition as he begins his 30th year.
