Pittsburgh is gearing up for an exciting week in high school sports as multiple teams head into playoff action. The WPIAL football championships are set to take center stage, along with several field hockey and soccer matches across the state.
This Saturday, the Class 6A Championship will kick off at Norwin with Central Catholic (9-2) taking on the powerhouse North Allegheny (10-1) at 6:05 p.m. Both teams have had strong seasons, setting up a highly anticipated showdown for the title.
On Friday, the Class 5A Semifinals will see Pine-Richland (10-1) face Bethel Park (11-2) at North Hills at 7 p.m. In another exciting match, Upper St. Clair (11-0) is set to battle Peters Township (10-1) at Bethel Park, also at 7 p.m.
Additionally, in Class 4A, the Championship between Thomas Jefferson (12-0) and McKeesport (8-4) will take place at Norwin on Saturday at 12:05 p.m.
In the Class 3A Semifinals, Imani Christian (11-0) and Avonworth (9-3) will compete at West Allegheny on Friday at 7 p.m., while Central Valley (6-5) faces Elizabeth Forward (8-3) at Montour at the same time.
Field hockey also heats up as the PIAA tournament Semifinals approach. Highlights include a match between Villa Maria Academy (23-1) and Emmaus (25-1) on Tuesday at Exeter Township at 6 p.m.
Soccer fans should also tune in for the boys’ PIAA tournament Semifinals on Tuesday, featuring Great Valley (17-6-2) against Parkland (22-0) at 8 p.m. at Exeter Township.
