Los Angeles – Big changes could be on the horizon for the Los Angeles Rams as reports suggest they are exploring the possibility of trading away their star wide receiver, Cooper Kupp. According to sources, the Rams are open to taking on some of Kupp’s remaining salary for the 2024 season to make a trade happen. Kupp, who is 31 years old, has a base salary of $15 million and a cap number of $29 million this year. He also has a $7.5 million roster bonus due in March 2025, with $5 million of that guaranteed.
The Rams are reportedly seeking a second-round pick in exchange for Kupp. Although Kupp has been sidelined with an ankle injury since Week 2, he is expected to return to action when the Rams face the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night.
In just two games this season, Kupp has recorded 18 catches for 147 yards and one touchdown. He was a standout player during the Rams’ Super Bowl winning season in 2021-22, achieving a remarkable feat by leading the NFL in catches, yards, and touchdowns – an accomplishment known as the receiving “Triple Crown”. He totaled 145 catches for 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns that season and continued his strong performance in the playoffs with 33 catches for 478 yards and six touchdowns across four games. Unfortunately, since that historic season, Kupp has struggled to stay on the field, participating in only 23 of the Rams’ last 40 games.
The Rams currently hold a 2-4 record this season, and trading Kupp could signify a shift towards a retooling phase for the franchise. Additionally, the Rams have activated the 21-day practice window for another wide receiver, Puka Nacua, as he recovers from a knee injury. Nacua had played 25 snaps in the Rams’ opening game before his injury.
As the team navigates this season, all eyes will be on Kupp’s status and the potential impact of any trades as they try to regroup and push for a turnaround.
