Fort Mill, a rapidly growing city in South Carolina, is buzzing with excitement as it prepares to welcome a brand-new rehabilitation hospital this week. The Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Mill opens its doors at 2260 Vista Road, and this is something many locals have been anticipating. Not only is this facility the first of its kind for Fort Mill, but it also beautifully fills the crucial gap between traditional hospital care and the comforts of home.
This new 39-bed facility is part of a larger network operated by Encompass Health, which proudly boasts being the largest rehab hospital provider in the country. With its roots firmly planted in over 165 hospitals across nearly 40 states, the company knows a thing or two about rehab. Residents of Fort Mill will no longer need to travel far for quality rehabilitation care, as the new hospital joins its sister facility located in nearby Rock Hill, which has 50 beds dedicated to rehab.
At Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Fort Mill, patients will enjoy a variety of amenities designed for their comfort and recovery. The facility will feature private patient rooms, a specially equipped therapy gym, and a cozy dining area. Plus, there’ll be in-house services such as dialysis and a pharmacy readily available. This means patients who transition from a traditional hospital but aren’t quite ready to tackle their daily lives can rest easy knowing they’re in good hands.
Scott Butler, the area CEO for Encompass Health, explained, “A lot of our patients have gone through some traumatic events that have impacted their balance, strength, speech, or swallowing skills. It could be events like strokes, serious car accidents, or lengthy recoveries from surgeries like hip replacements.” The facility is designed for those who may need a bit of extra time to regain their strength before heading home, with a typical stay lasting about two weeks.
This rehab hospital welcomes patients as young as 16 years old, but its primary clientele tends to be older adults. Butler expressed confidence that the new facility will quickly fill its beds, especially given Fort Mill’s booming population growth. “Charlotte is getting bigger, and folks are looking to settle down outside the city. I believe they’re starting to see Fort Mill as a wonderful place to raise a family,” he noted.
Healthcare can often feel overwhelming, especially when transitioning from one facility to another. Butler reassures the community by highlighting Encompass Health’s experience. “We’ve become experts at rehabilitation,” he said, emphasizing that the facility serves one in three rehab patients nationwide. Their track record speaks for itself when it comes to getting patients back on their feet.
The opening of this new rehabilitation hospital follows a series of healthcare developments in Fort Mill and neighboring areas. Just two years ago, the city welcomed its first traditional hospital, the Piedmont Medical Center — Fort Mill, which was the result of over a decade of planning and legal challenges. Since that time, healthcare services in the area have expanded significantly, including the establishment of a new emergency room on Gold Hill Road and various medical facilities sprouting up in Indian Land, which is set to host a future hospital.
As Fort Mill continues to grow, the healthcare scene is set to flourish along with it, providing residents with greater access to comprehensive medical services. The unfolding story of healthcare in this vibrant community is just getting started, and with new facilities like the Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital, the future looks bright for those in need of rehabilitation care.
