“I wanted to see his team; they came and there were so many tears,” shared Principal Marshall tearfully. They filled the stands, draped in vibrant blue gear, paying tribute to a man who “always had this big smile on his face,” as described by Michael Drummond, the athletic director at LCA. His energy and enthusiasm had a ripple effect throughout the school, creating a loving and supportive atmosphere.

A Gift That Keeps on Giving

In the wake of such a heartbreaking loss, the school has now opened a memorial scholarship aimed at continuing Benjamin’s legacy of giving. “He spent his whole time with us constantly giving,” Marshall said. This scholarship aims to provide opportunities for students who might not otherwise be able to afford a college education. “That’s going to be his legacy, and there will be kids that will go to college that may not be able to otherwise,” she added with resolve.

The goal for this fall is to raise at least $10,000 to support the scholarship fund, turning a painful moment into a positive movement that keeps Benjamin’s spirit alive. Marshall hopes that through the loss, they will cultivate new opportunities and foster a gift that keeps on giving. “It’s a testimony to what he did and the lives he touched,” she remarked, reflecting the shared sentiments of everyone grieving.
