On January 26, 2020, Ricky received the devastating news of the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, along with Altobelli, Altobelli’s wife, and daughter among others. This tragic event shook Ricky to the core and left a void in his heart.
Coach Altobelli was not just a mentor but a father figure to Ricky during his time at Orange Coast College. With a focus on family values and a passion for the game, Altobelli’s impact on Ricky was profound, shaping him both as a player and as a person.
After a setback due to injury, Ricky’s determination led him to Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Embracing the change in scenery, Ricky found a new home where he thrived both academically and athletically.
In his first season with the Eagles, Ricky made an immediate impact, showcasing his talent with an impressive batting average and solid performance on the field. His dedication and work ethic have not gone unnoticed by his teammates and coaches.
As Ricky approaches his final season of collegiate baseball, the future holds endless possibilities. While dreams of advancing to the next level linger, Ricky remains focused on finishing strong and leaving a lasting legacy both on and off the field.
